BRACT & STIGMA FROM THE KINSMAN PROJECT OF 18" X 24" FLATS
BRACT & STIGMA FROM THE KINSMAN PROJECT OF 18" X 24" FLATS
Art meets science in this uniquely stunning photograph that reveals the extraordinary microscopic beauty of the world’s most controversial plant, cannabis sativa.
Here you have an image of the bract and stigma of a female cannabis flower. There are a number of different types of cell structures, called trichomes, on the bract. The thorn-like trichomes use a physical defense while the circular, glandular trichomes use a chemical defense. Combined, these defenses keep insects and animals from eating the plant. When she is ready, she opens the bract to reveal the sticky fingers of the stigma in search of pollen. The field of view of this image is 3 mm wide.
